GrowCharlotte is a Community Action Network that connects all members of the local food industry. Started in 2012 as a public health initiative, the vision is to create a central resource for people in the Charlotte area to learn more about where their food comes from, how it's grown, and where it is available. GrowCharlotte’s participation in the local food movement will help bring awareness to the cause and will facilitate growth for area businesses by increasing visitation to farmers markets and food venues that source locally.
The current site provides location and contact information for area farmers markets and provides educational content for consumers to better understand the benefits of healthy food choices prompting them to take part in the movement. In the future the site will host searchable listings and user profiles for both individuals and organizations that grow, buy and sell food in the Charlotte area. The site also plans to incorporate social networking and e-commerce capabilities integrated with interactive features such as media feeds, maps, and rating and feedback platforms. Having a central resource for community members to easily find and share information will assist in the growth of the local economy and foster a healthier community.
