Non-GMO Feed, replying to Warren's email

Hi all, I'm gently nudging the conversation about getting together back to the localfoodsystems.org group (just click the link in the message, check to see that you're logged in, and you're ready to reply), only because it will be seen by more interested folks than just those on the email and maybe enlist a bit more participation and help.  For example, Brian Gwin has been feeding some useful information and events and Traci may know of some IFO members who'd be interested in getting involved.

Warren had suggested:  Let's find an excuse and way to get us all in a room for a couple hours. We can eat and talk.

How about the week of November 26? I am on a panel at a two-day Virginia Farm-to-Table conference (http://conference.virginiafarmtotable.org/) with folks like Michael Shuman and Francis Thicke the following week, Dec. 5 and 6. It would be great to have made some progress together and engage some of them in our dialogue.

I'm heading in that direction on 11/30, can't leave Wooster until 10 and have to be in Columbus by 3.  So depending on where you're gathering I might be able to join you that Friday.

One other note, and I'm not an agronomic crops specialist so this is based on more general principles.   I would agree entirely with diversifying your feed supply chain into small grains.  Corn is not so much a prima donna, however, in a diversified rotation, like what you'll see on organic farms, and could still be a valuable role player.  The nonGMO seed sources, particularly looking into the future, would seem to be an even bigger question than consistency of yield in how corn fits your rotations.

Best wishes, and Thankful for all of the work you're doing on this, so I'll be thinking about you all on Thursday,

Casey
